Ronster 82A Space on Ronnie Shalvis
July 24 Team StreetStunts!!!!The stunt team I was talking about earlier is official called: Team StreetStunts! I did have a web page for us, but I tryed to change one thing on it and now it doesn't even work. Web page design can be so freaking frustrating. Well we got a first performance too, check out the video here: Cornerstone Summer Social Performance Things are looking really good, we also already have a few more performances booked, you'll be seeing more of us soon... May 31 Ronie Shalvis Streetstunts PorfolioMy newest and most skilled video is up. Filmed at the University of Utah and an LDS Church I go to.. It makes for an awesome video, just check it out here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5390698961451562704&q=shalvis+productions May 22 Re-Up on Newbies JamThe jam was pretty good, though it wasn't really a newbies jam, because there weren't any NEWBIES! But its all good. Hopefully next time though. But it was a pretty slow paced jam, but all the while fun. I was stupid enough to lead everyone up top this building where you have to walk across windows, and if the window were to have broken on one of is, it would have ben a 3 story fall. That would not be a pretty sight. But we all turned out safe. And check out the the photos there, some of them are peretty sweet! May 13 Newbies JamThere will be a "Newbies Jam" May 19 At the University of Utah, North parking lot. 10:00-10:30 am. Remember anybody is welcome. It is just a jam to get all the newcomers familiar with the Utah parkour Community or slcpk. So really if you are interested please come. If you would like more information before going go ahead and email me, and I would be more than willing to reply to what ever your needs may be e-mail: sk8rdude_guitarsrule82@yahoo.com. Or go straight to the plan here at: http://slcpk.org/forums/showthread.php?t=314 May 07 Fox 13 Story on Utah ParkourRecently Fox13 news did a story on the Utah parkour community. It aired May 07 at 9:00 pm. Sorry for anybody who happen to miss it. I did not get a blog up intime to inform any body. But heres how it went: Starting with a good few of maybe 12 guys and a gal (only an estimate) were the first to get started at this jam. The camera man Pete and interviewer Arrika Von later showed up to get some footage. We did a whole bunch of runs as a group, if you didn't know better you might think we were a bunch of crazy hoolagans invading or trying to take over the University of Utah. While more and more people kept showing up with maybe 20 traceurs and then a good amount of parents/photographers/friends. We finished up the day with some interviews. Me and my dad bolth got interviewed together for a good 20 minutes, but obviously they won't be showing that much. While a few others were doing tutorials on certain techniques like the "pk roll" and the "monkey vault". After it was over almost everybody left my dad included, but a few. And the rest of us headed downtown to get some lunch. It was a very exciting, fun day. Finally all the anticipation of the footage airing was pretty awesome. The first piece took place at 9:15 pm and was maybe 5 minutes long. It got a clip of my interivew and me and devon doing a pretty sweet backflip. Then a second one aired at 9:45 which showed how you can be safe while participating in parkour. They have the videos up now, and will give the links so anyone can view them easily. Parkour Part 1 Link HERE And then the Parkour part 2 Video can be seen HERE. Well hope you enjoy it, I sure did. You will see me as a kid wearing a red shirt, with NO long hair. I'm not hard to miss. My dad on the other hand is wearing a hat and sunglassess.... or actually just look for the only old guy there, he should stick out with a bunch of teenagers. It was pretty excited to see myself on tv for the first time. Thanks to Slcpk.org for putting this jam together. And a thanks to Fox13, Arikka Von and the camera man Pete for making it possible. Check out some picture below. And for more pictures check out my photo gallery the album is called "Fox13 Jam". April 20 SPIDERMAN 3!SPIDER-MAN 3 -- MAY 4 So me and a bunch of friend are going to go see Spider-Man 3 the same day it comes out. Not the midnight viewing, but we will see it later in the day. Then saturday will be all day spiderman 3 game playing. Then the week after that I am going to see it again on a date down in springville. Finally hopefully I will be able to see it at least a third time in theatres for no reason at all, just because it is going to be so FREAKING AWESOME! The villains are going to be AMAZING with New goblin Sand Man and Venom. I've been waiting 3 years for this movie to come out. And Just so you know, spiderman is what inspired me to take up parkour, freerunning, martial arts, and being spiderman! Check out some of these pics.. March 15 Stunt TeamWell I'm going to be joining a stunt team. Right now we are going to start working on some videos to see if we can get some sponsors and then to also send it in to a stunt coorinator to see what kind of work he could get us. Most likely we will be doing things for commercials and stuff like that, and possibly shows. I can't wait, I've always wanted to do something like this, and not only will I be doing what I enjoy, but I will be payed to do what I enjoy so much. Cheers.
-More info and videos to come February 11 SLCPK JamsOh my heck! The last jam I went to was sick! We had 12 people come including my self. If you don't know what a jam is then listen to this. There are a group of traceurs (those who practice parkour) all across utah state called slcpk or Salt Lake City Parkour. And we will have what are called jams, where a bunch of us get together and practice parkour in some of our favorite hot spots. There are different types of jams, gym jams, and outdoor jams. The gym jams consist of going somewhere indoors (like a gymnastics gym for example) and will practice our techniques and movements there when the weather is bad or we just want somewhere to practice things where it will be more safe. For an example of what they are like click this link: gym jam. And then the out door jams we will meet at places like universities where the building structures are very enjoyable and can practice almost any movement. I will have a video up later of what those are like. First off when we get together, we will warm up a bit, get to know any new comers and then get started. And all of the guys I have met at jams are friendly, and they become your bestfriends right off.(for that few hours any ways) You can stay how ever long you want, there is no price unless the gym you go to charges to use their equipment, but anywhere else it is free. There are those who do lots of crazy insane stuff (like me for example am one of them) and others are there soly to work on techniques and learn from others. And then there are the begginers or new comers. They are awesome as well, they come to learn and to meet new people and to have fun. If you would like to come to one of these jams check out the community internet site: slcpk.org If you want to know when and where these jams will be check out the forums under event planning: forums And don't be afraid to join and introduce your self to the community, because you will be welcomed with open arms. Lastly please don't be afraid to come because you are a begginer or are self concious, because we have all been there once. Just come to have fun and meet new people. Finally if you really want to come and are worried, read this article and it will step you in the direction you want to go. jam article Good luck, remember to have fun, and I will see you at our next jam. December 22 Free RunningFree Running, very much like parkour, but with a much different feel and meaning. Free Running is being free, no worries no problems. Though unlike parkour free running isn't for everybody. It is a way to express your self through movement, control, power, and flow. Almost like a dance you could say but it is not choreographed, nor do you know what will come next. You could say free running is for more showing off, and it can be. But the whole goal of free running is to push your body beyond its limits, whether thats using flips to make it technicial and beautiful, or just moving with flow over buildings and obstacles. If free running sounds to dangerous or scary, thats ok, because you can just stick with parkour, and with parkour you only do things you are comfortable with and you aren't trying to do more than your body than handle. I do parkour and free running. How you may ask? Well when I am practising parkour my sole focus is on accompolishing my task of making my movements effecient and strong, and understanding its philosophies. When i am free running my focus is more on the beauty and freedom of my movement, making things more challenging for absolutely no reason. But many times the difference does not even matter, they are only names made up of words and sounds that society has put there to make it easier to understand. But to really understand, you must go out and do it for your self, making your own path, and creating your own movements. Deep down there really is no name for what I do because it is so different from the way I see it, and the way other people see it. So create your own trail and become a true traceur or free runner. September 28 Free Running VideoOk I got this sweet video out of me doing crazy free running tricks. The editing was poor because i was in a hurry to make it, but the flips and jumps are AWESOME!!! See please watch and enjoy. heres the link http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5711146382606328613&q=shalvis+productions oh and heres a link to all of my other videos if you ever get bored and have nothing to do. http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=shalvis+productions September 23 the world through my eyesYou know I don't know about anyone else, but do you ever just think, not sit and think because you don't have to be sitting. But just think of the things around you, look at the environment, the world we live in. You know, I walk home from the bus stop every day and walk to it. Boring, it may seem, but just that small walk can be like a mental adventure. As I am walking I'm watching and feeling everything around me, all of my surroundings. I will look at the sky and the trees, even the little pebbles that seem so insignificant. But if you really think about it that one small little pebble has a world of its own. All the molecules and elements that make it up make it so complex, and you wouldn't think that with just a pebble. That pebble was created, through an intelligence far greater than our understanding, even the word intelligence is to week to compare with it.
You know I use to never think things like this but I started slowly developing this new way of seeing things, when I started le parkour and free running. Yes almost everybody knows i'm obsessed with it. But I can't help it, just the freedom it gives me, no barriers or obstacles stand in my way. You may think that le parkour is just over coming things physically, which it mostly is. But if you can understand le parkour and its meanings and philosiphies, you will start understanding that it can also help you mentally, even through trials. Its not the fact that you can do parkour that gets you through trials, because trials don't have anything to do with jumping off a building. But if your brain can comprehend and understand its meaning, thats what will really help you through your everyday life. I could care less if you did parkour or not, what I care about is that you will understand why people like me do it. I do like it when people do parkour with me but I like it even more when they understand what parkour is to me.
When you start seeing the world in this different perspective, life suddenly has so much more meaning. Every day you walk, breathe, think you start to understand why you are even able to walk, breathe and think. You were created, you are a very important person, heavenly father created us to live on this earth and to live our lives as full and extraordinary as possible. Now to some people this may all seem like jibberish but this is how I live my life each and everyday thinking of these things. June 05 All we need is a little inspirationwell folks I'm working on inspiring people to parkour, why you ask? I'm doing it for the complete benefit of the United Sates of America. Parkour is popular in france and britain and those areas but not quite as popular as us traceurs would like it to be here. There is a new movie coming out made in some other country coming to the US Starring David Belle The creater of Parkour and Cyril Raffaeilli another great traceur, Traceurs all across the world are hoping this is the movie to spark intrest in parkour in the US. How ever The movie has only come out in theatres in a certain number of movie theatres across The US and Utah isn't one of them, I'm hoping it can at least reach DVD here. Now back to what I'm trying to get at. Parkour is natural sport it has always been there, even people who don't know about it use it all the time! whether its climbing a fence jumping over a rock or just simpling jumping off a rock. Parkour isn't showing off, though many people add flips when their parkouring to help attract people to the sport. You can take parkour anywhere in life, with parkour you don't need equipment like a skateboard or bycicle, it might help if you have shoes though, but most of us wear shoes anyways. But parkour is always there with in you, its in your mussels, from your head to toes, its in your brain working you mentally. Parkour can have a lot of uses. Say some one is chasing you and if you have good practice in parkour you will not only be able to run good but you can use obstacles to speed you up while the obstacles will just be slowing down who ever is chasing you, I recomend every body learns Parkour! You can also use it for a rescue mission. Say someone is hanging on a building ready to fall and theres no time for a helicopter maybe parkour is just what you need to get you there in time to save them. Parkour will also Increase your reflexes and the way you move, you will trip less likely just walking down the street because you are more aware of your surrounding. I don't see why any one shouldn't learn parkour, its just another way of walking but with control and balance. But don't forget parkour takes time and hard work, you won't become good at it if you don't practice! You need patience and discipline, It's not like spiderman where you just get bit by a radio active spider and you can do everything, it takes time and practice.
It would be nice every once in a while to parkour with someone istead of always doing it by myself, you could say thats another reason why i'm trying to encourage people to parkour but that is not the main reason. My goal is to one day have my own parkour organization or team across all the United States and it starts with YOU! Release your Inner Traceur! Since i don't have my own organization yet, you can simply join another team that I am on called salt lake city parkour with people all across the state of Utah, you can visit them @ www.slcpk.org Thank you
Traceur -Ronnie Shalvis May 19 Le Parkour? Le Parkour? Whats that? Is probably what your thinking. Well let me tell you about parkour. The word parkour comes from the french word "parcour" which means "obstacle coursing." Parkour was invented by a man by the name of David Belle, Inspired by his father Raymond Belle who was in the military fire service and a beleiver of this parcour. David Belle Into gymnastics, and at the age of 15 is when he started coming up with the idea for parkour. Parkour is moving along a path using two points, point A and point B. Going between these points as straight as possible going over every obstacle to get you there. Parkour using Gracefulness and fluidity with out turning back, overcoming these obstacles as smooth as your body will let you. Parkour has many philosophys and can be compared to our everyday lives like this quote "Life is made up of obstacles and challenges, and to overcome them is to progress." by Sebastian Foucan who is also a co-found of parkour. Sebastian beleives that parkour has always been there, he puts it as parkour has always been used like in africa the way they hunt to track animals and chase, they are using parkour techniques. Its just that no one has ever put this type of movement in a box or category now known as parkour.
Parkour is my life, my discipline, I train myself every day in parkour to become stronger, to become more aware of my surroundings, and to help me in every day life. If you are interested in "The Art of Parkour" then check out these internet sights.
